3000/6000
As a reminder, if you are interested in swimming the USMS 3000/6000 Yard Postal Championship, you need to have your swim in before November 15.
Ok, so only some of you are but I thought I would let you know anyway.
For all you distance folks, I would encourage you to participate. Rio Grande Masters is putting this event on, which is part of Border Masters, a small LMSC in SW Texas. They send some of their members to our meets in Phoenix and Tucson so let's show them some support for this event.
If you need an entry form, click here or email Max Veltman who is the event coordinator.
Good luck to all!

Become a Brute
Washington State University Masters is hosting a postal event that you brutes out there may dig.
As you can guess, they are hosting a brute squad meet.
How is this different than the one we have down in Tucson?
Well, this is a postal event, which means you can swim it anytime between November 1 and December 31.
You only have to swim three events for this meet. Those events are the 1650 Free, 400 IM, and the 200 Fly.
You can swim short course or long course but your Meters times will not be converted.
So if you still feel like a brute, go here to download the form or email Doug Garcia who is organizing the event.

ButterNut
There are many definitions for the word Butternut. However, since this is a swimming site, we will concentrate on a swimming-related (and non-official) definition.
Main Entry: but·ter·nut
Function: noun:
A swimmer who swims more than 500 yards of butterfly who does so legally and has a witness to the event -- also known as crazy or disturbed.
Team NASTI is organizing this event for anybody brave/insane enough to swim this event. If you are interested, click on this link for more information.
Good luck!

Upcoming Meet - in NM
New Mexico Masters is hosting a sprint meet on Veteran's Day at New Mexico State University.
Hold on there cowboy, what's the difference between a "sprint meet" and a normal meet?
This meet will feature short races, the longest event is 100 yards. There will be 25's and 50's for most events, the relays will be 100 yards.
But wait, there's more!
After the meet, there will be a game of Sharks and Minnows along with Freeze Tag and Marco Polo.
You think I am joking about all this, well read the meet form for yourself.
FYI, NMSU is located in Las Cruces, which is about 35 miles from El Paso, TX. All you have to do is get on I-10 and go east, you will get there in a few hours.
The pool is operated by the University and looks like an outstanding facility. If you are interested, download the form (along with the entry card) and email it to the meet director.
Have a great time and good luck!

Fall Classic
This fall, NAU will host the 2nd Annual Fall Classic on Sunday November 5. This will be a Short Course Meters meet and will be held at the Wall Aquatics Center, which is on the corner of San Francisco and Franklin on the NAU campus.
But wait, there is more!
Join Northern Arizona Masters on Saturday, November 4 for a pre-meet Clinic/Workout and Pasta Party, which is guaranteed to make your travel more worthwhile. There will be stroke technique and turn instruction along with a late afternoon workout.
Sounds great, doesn't it? Here is how you get signed-up:
Liz Hobbs
514 W Navajo Rd
Flagstaff, AZ 86001
Entry Fee $40.00 fee includes up to 5 events, plus water time and pasta dinner on Saturday. If you can only attend the meet on Sunday entry fee is $25.00. Deck entries will be $30.00. Make check payable to Northern AZ Swimming. Entries must be received by 5 PM on Wednesday November 1 so get your's in today.
Unfortunately there is a football game this weekend at NAU, so there are no special rates available at local hotels. If you decide to come up for the weekend, it would be a good idea to make your reservation in advance. There are a number of Flagstaff masters swimmers who would love to put out-of-towners up for the night, especially swimmers on the Valley and Tucson teams could reciprocate when Flagstaff folk come down for meets in the spring when hotel rates are sky high.
If you are interested in being matched with a member up here, or have any questions about the meet, email Liz or call 928-773-4655.
